With November coming to a rapid close, Westhill’s annual Thanksgiving food drive has begun. Interact and JROTC have teamed up this year to make the food drive better than ever. Having placed boxes in every single room around the school, decorated with festive turkey and feathers, these two clubs hope to encourage many people to participate. All of the food will be sent to various places such as the Stamford Food Bank and Inspirica. Inspirica is an organization that provides housing, education, and food to different families all over Stamford.
The food drive has been important to the Westhill community for years. “It’s a fun interactive way for students to get involved and come together as a community,” senior and Vice President of Interact Nikhita Jaaswal said. Not only does it get people involved in the school community but the Stamford community as well. “It helps feed a huge number of families and creates an overall good atmosphere in the school and outside community,” Jaaswal continued.
In the hopes of attracting even more participants, Interact has organized “pieing” where students who bring in cans will be entered in a raffle and be given the opportunity to pie a teacher in the face. Participating faculty include Mrs. Figluzzi and Mr. Pereira. “I really don’t know if the pie thing is a huge attraction but who doesn’t want to pie a teacher in the face? It’s more of a bonus for the kids that donate,” senior Interact President Hannah Katz said.
With the holiday approaching quickly, it is important for us to come together to help out those that are in need. Donations are being excepted through Friday morning. Contact Ms. Berkley for more information. Click here to find Ms. Berkley’s email on the Westhill staff list.
