On Thursday, November 26 at 10am, Westhill will take on Stamford High in a rivalry varsity football matchup. The Vikings enter the game with a record of 1-8, their latest loss coming to St. Joes on November 14. The Black Knights enter the game with a record of 3-5. The Vikings should be ready to score a high amount of points. Stamford High has only scored 143 times this year, putting their offense among the bottom 5 in the FCIAC. In Stamford’s last game, they lost to Trinity 36-0. They had serious trouble defending and could not run the ball.

“Words can’t begin to describe how excited I am to play Stamford High on Thanksgiving. Hopefully we can end the season with a bang.” said senior quarterback Carl Gedeon. He will play a key role in the game with his speed and his arm. He needs to be able to avoid pressure from the defense, and find Dan Hogan and Noodles Metayer in the end zone. If they can accomplish this, it will be an easy game.

In 2014, Westhill lost to Stamford High 42-21 at Boyle Stadium. The game was lost after the second quarter, when the Knights were up 28-7. Westhill needs to score first, and score often to keep the momentum on their side. “All I ever wanted was to beat them. Last year, I caught the first touchdown as a junior and to hear the crowd go crazy is the best feeling in the world” said senior Dan Hogan.

The last time the game was played at J Walter Kennedy Stadium back in 2013, the Vikings crushed Stamford High 40-0. The offense scored 21 points in the second quarter to end the Black Knights season. In 2012, the Vikings also won the game, by a score of 20-6.

Game Notes:

  • Stamford’s Head Coach Jamar Greene is only dressing 35 players. He feels his Junior Varsity team did not compete hard enough to put on the jersey for Thursday’s game.
  • A win for the Vikings will give them the Frank Robotti Trophy, the trophy presented to the winner of the game.
  • Arrive EARLY. School officials are expecting a big crowd for the 10am game.
