Spring break gives students a chance to step away from the stress of school and explore new opportunities and activities they might not normally have time for. Unsure of what to do over break? This article explores what Westhill students plan to do for break, offering new ideas on how to make the most out of your time off.
Traveling allows students to enjoy their week by exploring new places and spending time with their families. Going somewhere far away can be an amazing way to explore new sights and make new memories. “I’m planning on going to the Dominican Republic for the week and going to the pool,” said Jordan Sherban (’28). Sherban is staying in Punta Cana at a resort. He’s excited to try meals in the Dominican Republic such as Mangu and La Bandera. However, traveling does not mean that you have to go far. Going on long car rides to local resorts or amusement parks can be a great experience as well.
Another way of spending Spring Break is by exploring Stamford with friends, allowing you to socialize and make lasting memories. You could go to the mall, watch a new movie at a movie theater, or play games at a park. Instead of being tempted to doom-scroll on your phone, you can get some fresh air and get out of your comfort zone.
Hobbies such as writing, reading, painting, or cooking are great examples to keep yourself occupied for the break. “I want to finish reading Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter and read some more books from my list,” said Liliana Mejia (‘28). “I found this recipe on TikTok about Raising Cane chicken tenders. I really want to try it out during break,” added Meija. Spring break can be a great time to experiment with new recipes you’ve discovered online. Reading is a great way to drift your mind away from the stress of school. “I have lacrosse practice almost every day, but it’s fun since my friends are going with me,” Said Peri Bernstein (‘28). Playing sports is a nice way of staying active in the pleasant spring weather.
On the other hand, if you choose to stay indoors, you can still have a fun time by playing video games and engaging in hobbies. “I like to play Roblox and Fortnite. My favorite game is forsaken and rivals,” said Bella Martinez (‘28). Roblox and Fortnite are popular games to play over break. If you are a sports fan, you may be more interested in games from EA Sports, such as FIFA, NFL, NHL, and F1. Spring break offers the perfect opportunity to hone your gaming skills and dedicate time to making real progress.
Spending quality time with loved ones and friends is one of the most common and meaningful ways to make up for the time missed during busy school weeks. “My mom and I usually watch movies together, so we’ll probably do more of that,” said Emma Chen (‘28). It could be something as simple as a family game night or a movie binge. Regardless of the activity, it’s always valuable to spend time with your loved ones during the break.
Spring break is a valuable time to relax and take a break from the endless stream of tests and assignments from school. Make sure to spend it in a meaningful way to make the most of your Spring break.
