Sophomore Chelsea Domond is a very talented soccer player. She has committed to Northeastern University to play soccer with them. The Westword was fortunate enough to catch up with her and ask her a few questions.
Westword (WW): How old are you?
Chelsea Domond (CD): I’m 16 years old.
WW: How old were you when you first started playing soccer?
CD: I started playing when I was 4 years old.
WW: What’s your favorite memory associated with soccer?
CD: My favorite memory would probably be when I was really young… I’d go towards the wrong goal and score for the other team!
WW: Was there ever a time in your life when you couldn’t play soccer because of an injury and how did that affect your schedule?
CD: Yes – when I sprained my ankle. There was an important soccer event that I was going to miss because of it, but I actually managed to push through the injury and go to the tournament. I had fun and did pretty well!
WW: What are you looking forward to most about college?
CD: Probably meeting my teammates and having friends going into college.
WW: Why Northeastern University?
CD: I really liked the environment and the fact that it wasn’t incredibly secluded. I also enjoyed how friendly the college staff was.
WW: How excited are your parents?
CD: My parents are super excited for me!
WW: When and where were you when you committed to Northeastern University?
CD: I was at home in September hanging out with my family when I heard the news.
WW: What’s the first thing you plan on doing when you get to college?
CD: That’s a good question, I have no idea!… probably meet people and explore because I’ve never been to Boston for that extended amount of time.
WW: What’s your highest scoring game?
CD: U9 Stamford Hurricanes travel team… it was something like 8-0.
WW: What position do you play on the field?
CD: I play forward.
WW: how often do you practice for games and competitions?
CD: I practice 2-3 times a week. We do lots of training in understanding the space of the field. Sometimes we do shooting drills but my favorite part of practice is probably scrimmaging.
WW: What do you love most about soccer?
CD: Another good question! Probably the team effort and really getting to know your teammates and how that looks and comes together as a team on the field.
Chelsea Dummond is going on to do great things, so make sure to keep your eyes trained on her!
