Every year, the Westhill Parent Teacher Student Organization (WPTSO) puts on a fashion show to raise money for the WPTSO-sponsored Senior After-prom, which provides students with an alcohol and drug-free environment to go at the conclusion of the prom. Upperclassmen model clothing from local stores and spectators are charged a fee for admission.

Junior and senior boys and girls have the opportunity become models for an evening and to feel what it is really like to walk a runway. This fashion show has more models participating than in years past, which is evidence that a new enthusiasm for the fashion show has been sparked in Westhill students. “It’s always fun to dress up and go on stage,” said senior Zeena Advani. “It’s a good way to end senior year and it should be fun.”

For the junior’s portion of the show, both boys and girls will be wearing winter sportswear in honor of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Their wardrobes will be provided by local retailers including Shippan Surf & Skate, Pedigree Ski Shop, Fox’s, and Who.A.U.

For the senior’s portion of the show, girls will be dressed in beautiful prom dresses from A Step Ahead and wear elegant jewelry from Heart of Gold. The boys will be wearing stylish suits provided by Zemo’s Menswear.

Dresses from A Step Ahead, pictured above, will be worn by senior girls during the fashion show on February 26.

WPTSO co-president Lisa Hilsenrath and parent volunteer Josette Grimaldi are responsible for organizing the fashion show. In the past, they have tried to incorporate Westhill talent in the show. This year is no exception. “We will have entertainment by the Westhill cheerleaders, a preview [of the school musical] Carousel, and a song by fine arts teacher Mr. Curri. However, the real stars of the night are the models,” said Hilsenrath.

While many seniors and juniors are thrilled to actually participate in the show, many underclassmen are just as excited to see the show. “I cannot wait to see the show. Seeing all those amazing dresses, maybe I’ll get an idea of what I want to wear to next year’s prom,” said sophomore Jessica Thibault.

The fashion show will be held on February 26 at 7:30 p.m., but doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be $8 for adults, $5 for students, and free for children who are under five years of age or under. Save the date for a night of good fashion to help raise money for the Senior After-prom.

Update: Due to the inclement weather, the fashion show has been postponed to Thursday, March 11.
