Stamford’s Board of Education named Winifred Hamilton the official Superintendent of schools Tuesday night. Hamilton has served as Interim Superintendent since September, when former Superintendent Joshua Starr accepted a position in Montgomery County, Md. Hamilton has worked as a gym teacher, assistant principal, and principal within the school district. Before becoming Interim Superintendent, she served as Assistant Superintendent of the district.
Four Board members voted to extend the search process beyond the district instead of selecting Hamilton in a resolution at the beginning of the Board meeting, according to The Stamford Advocate. When the resolution was defeated by a five-vote majority, three of these Board members voted to elect Hamilton, with only one Board member, Polly Rauh, abstaining from the vote.
