The Westhill Auditorium was built in 1969 along with the rest of the school and is home to many programs and productions since its construction. Recently, it was announced that renovations would be made to the auditorium in order to stay on par with new fire regulations.
Although the renovations will not actually be visible to the audience or to the actors, it will greatly affect the light and sound effects of the productions.
“I’m really happy these renovations are occurring as the auditorium desperately needed some updates,” Student Technology Director senior Patrick Hamon said, “I think they will make it easier for us as a tech crew to operate the auditorium and put on great performances.”
The changes will be paid for with money from the school budget, which will also be supplemented by money from the Northstar Playmakers Parent Production Group. According to Principle Ms. Figluzzi, the renovations will take about a month and half to coordinate and put into place. They include the additions of new outlets for power in the balcony, the building of a platform and desks to place equipment on, and the fixing of a dimmer.
Overall, the renovations should make the auditorium safer for students and lead to even better performances.“The renovations should make technical preparation for the performances easier, and shows will be better from the technical side. Performances will be run much more smoothly after the renovations,” Hamon said.
