As 2018 comes to a close, many corporations are preparing for 2019. Pantone has announced their Color of the Year for 2019, which is PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral. Pantone described it as “An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”

Pantone is a company based around color. It was founded in 1963 and was used as guideline for graphic designers. Nowadays, Pantone is known for their matching system, their iconic branding, and, of course, their annual Color of the Year.

The Color of the Year tradition has been going on for about 20 years and has become an important role in design and product development decisions all over the country.

According to an interview with the New York Times, the executive director of Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman said that the main components of their color decision are sports, fashion, film, and design, visual art, nature, and technology.

“It’s a really nice color, it can match with so much if you know how to style it because it is so unique,” Elsa Amiti (’19) said.

This new color is meant to “[symbolize] our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits,” and “[represent] the fusion of modern life.”

“I think the color invokes a deep serenity, and the fact that it is a coral only makes it more peaceful. In a time where everything is so paced, it is nice to have a color to look at that invokes such a calming peace,” Guilmar Valle (’19) said.
