It was truly a season to remember for the girls Volleyball team at Westhill. On Monday, the Vikings lost a tough one to New Canaan 3-2.

Westhill held a 2-1 lead going into the forth set on the eve of election day. The girls had defeated New Canaan in back-to-back sets, including one win by a margin of 10 points. But, after the third set, the rams continued to rally. New Canaan won the fourth set by a score of 25-17 and the fifth 15-6.

“It sucked losing to a team we all wanted to beat so badly,” said senior captain Gabriella Veseli. “We should’ve pushed to win the fourth set a little bit harder. Going to a fifth set is extremely difficult mentally and physically,” she continued.

New Canaan senior Jessica Parrino had six aces and 24 digs, while Emma Wheeler had 47 assists and 7 digs. On the Westhill side, Betsy Sachs had 7 kills and 7 digs, while Samantha Johns-Folkes had 10 kills and 5 blocks.

“I think the team will do great next year. They’re only losing 3 of us seniors and I know we’ve got some good replacements. Other teams like Stamford High and New Canaan are losing there star players,” said Veseli.

New Canaan (13-9) will now take on #3 seed Ridgefield (16-3) in the next round this Thursday.
