What to do this Fall in New England and Westchester

It’s been getting colder outside lately, but if you’re still in denial that winter is coming and refuse to stop going out here’s a list of fun things to do in the fall:

The Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze on the Hudson

-A walk-through experience at the Van Cortlandt Manor an 18th century historic landscape that takes you through a giant display of hand-carved and brightly-lit Jack-O-lanterns. The display is said to be made up of more than five thousand pumpkins covering the walls and ceilings with synchronized light shows and sound effects, a sleepy hallow headless horseman sculptures and a large pumpkin bonfire next to their working doomsday grandfather clock. It also includes the Museum of Pumpkin Art, the first exhibition space that consists of more than twenty works of art devoted to sculptures inspired by pumpkins. Tickets range from $20 for adults to $16 for children ages 3 to 17. This event’s last day will be on November 16th so you better hurry and get your tickets before it’s too late! (This event is not in Fairfield county,but is fairly close with only a thirty-six minute drive from Stamford via I-95 S.)

Ghosts of New Haven:

           – Halloween is over now, but that does not mean you can’t enjoy a good scare anymore. The Ghosts of New Haven is a mile long walking tour, with four different types of 90 minute long haunted tours dedicated to exploring the supernatural it is sure to give you a scare.  However there is a disclaimer that they will not be responsible for any haunting before, during or after the tour so if you tend to scare easily it may be wise of you to beware. Tickets cost up to $25 you can buy them online at Ghostsofnewhaven.com. The hours are from 7:30-9:00pm every weekend. This may seem like enough time but be sure that you buy your tickets at least a week in advance because their spots tend to fill up fast.

Go to a Museum:

  –  The Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT has brought back their tradition of small scale exhibits. These displays are being used to help 13 featured contemporary artists express themselves in many ways all while it being miniature (this event will be ending in January). If you are not into art you can explore their Electricity lay out that will allow you to learn more on the concept of electricity which will be ending on Sunday, November 6th. They also have a new exhibit for those woman who want to learn a little bit more about themselves at the new Art by Woman from our neighbors’ private collection (this event will be ending on December 31st).  Tickets are available at $7 for adults, they do offer some specials on certain days and close early sometimes around holidays so you should call and confirm or check their website for any unscheduled closings just in case.

Corn Maze – Lyman Orchards:

           – The Lyman family of Lyman Orchards are celebrating the 275 years they have been farming and to do that they are inviting everyone to come and enjoy their 4 acres of corn turned into a maze with Corn Cops to help guide the way. Take a ride one of their ponies, a horse drawn hay ride or buy one of their award winning apple cider donuts all while participating in fun games like trivia questions. Tickets are up to $10 for adult and $5 for children. This event will be ending on Sunday, November 6th and for every admission they will be donating $1 to the American Cancer Society. Not only will you be helping to celebrate, you will also be donating to a great cause. So, get your tickets and tell your friends before it ends. (This event is not is not in Fairfield County, it is taking place in Middlefield, CT which is an hour drive, but it’s said to be worth it.)
