Boys’ hockey wins big at state championship

The Westhill-Stamford High co-op team defeated Staples-Weston-Shelton 5-4 to capture the D3 state championship. This is the first state championship win for either SHS or WHS since 2000.

Goalie Christian Compolattaro was a rock in net, making 17 saves in the first 2 periods. The first period was a rough one for the Vikings, as they only had 3 shots on net. But between periods, the team got motivated and came out hungry for the win. Junior Nick Rich netted a hat-trick, while Chris Clemmenson added another goal on top of that assisted by Cooper Healy.

The WHS-SHS team took the lead with 27 seconds left in the 3rd period on a failed line change by Staples. Rich was left alone in the slot and was able to score.

Westhill-Stamford finished the season with a 15-6-2 record. What is in store for the team next year in Division 2?  Things are looking good for boys’ Ice Hockey.
