The 2015 varsity field hockey team ended their season on a bittersweet note. Although the team concluded their season with a 2-12 record, defeating only Brien McMahon and Saint Joe’s, they had a fun-filled season to be proud of. The team proved their determination and hard work by beating McMahon in overtime, after entering the extra period tied 2-2. Coming off of the team’s last successful season, it was going to be a challenge to live up to the lofty expectations, especially with only a few remaining seniors. The field hockey team experienced significant changes in the dynamic of their team, losing against their city rivals, Stamford High, something they have not done in several years. Aside from changes in performance of the team, they also had to adapt to a minor switch up in coaches and change in number of players available. This year was definitely a pivotal season for the girls as they realized where they needed to make adjustments in order to reform the team. “After losing 13 seniors, it wasn’t easy rebuilding a team, but by the end of the season there was a huge improvement without a doubt. There’s definitely hope for a winning season next year,” junior captain Paige Sottosanti said.

Ending this season on the note the team did allowed the girls to evaluate and focus on what changes are needed to progress even further next season. However, high school sports teams are not all about winning. The girl’s field hockey team became a family during their season, one of the most important qualities of any team sport. This bond made the game all the more enjoyable according to several team members. “All of us were so close all season and that bond that we had really made our season worth it no matter what out record was,” senior captain, Jenna Lewis stated.

Regardless of the record, the varsity field hockey team had a successful season, making noticeable improvements and creating great friendships.
